When I arrived in France, I had no idea how different my dream was from the reality. It was really a shock. In the end, the key was learning how to adapt. If you can do that, then you can reap the benefits of a lifestyle and culture that truly emphasize quality of life. In Paris, reality is so much better than the dream!

Even shopping is different in France. The best is often hidden, so you really do have to know where to go. Equally important, you have to know how to act in the stores. Originally I wrote a shopping guide, Best Buys and Bargains in Paris, which not only has great stores and shopping tips, but also explains the "shopping etiquette" you need, to get the best service. Then I created shopping tours where we explore non-touristy neighborhoods to experience what life is like 'behind the scenes' in Paris.
